“Leading on Lead” Bill’s Signing Means Progress for Public Health

Governor Walker today signed the “Leading on Lead” bill, legislation to allow water utilities to help pay for removal of lead service lines – the top source of lead contamination of drinking water. It was introduced last year by Senator Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) and Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac) with bipartisan support.

Rent-to-Own Carve-Outs Good for Predatory Lenders, Bad for Wisconsinites

A bill moving through the state legislature would eliminate crucial consumer protections and transparency requirements for rent-to-own (RTO) customers by exempting the entire RTO industry from the Wisconsin Consumer Act. Consumer attorneys and advocates, faith constituencies, and groups representing low-income clients vehemently oppose these carve-outs that will encourage predatory RTO lenders to operate in the state.

Bee-Killing Pesticides Found in Great Lakes Water

A recent scientific study found the presence of commonly-used pesticides known to harm bees ("neonicotinoids" or "neonics") in several Great Lakes waterways. This study shows we know very little about the effects of pesticides once released into the environment.
